Archangel #5, Page 18

Page 18 sees the Fat Man bomb dropped in 2016.

Panels 1-3.

I have to confess, this was a complete surprise to me, I was expecting TORRES to redirect the bomb to Nagasaki, not to the SNAKE MOUNTAIN facility.

For a second I thought she had dropped it on the White House, but then I remembered that there's a replica White House here:

By dropping the bomb here, the Splitter is destroyed. We will see the impact this has had soon.

Archangel #4, Page 18

Page 18 sees our heroes try to locate the plane

Panel 1

NAOMI speaks, then VINCE

Panel 2

YERMAKOV has given them a potential location for the B-29 and they are close!

Panel 3

VINCE doesn't trust the Russian

Panel 4

NAOMI has good hearing.

Archangel #3, Page 18

Page 18 sees Mr. BABY'S staff member kicking ass and taking names.

Panel 1

She has the MG 42 we saw in MR. BABY's office.

Panel 2

"BUDDA, BUDDA, BUDDA" - I always think of reading Judge Dredd when I see a BUDDA.

Panel 3

JUNIOR's gang run.

Panel 4

JUNIOR's gang run more.

Archangel #2, Page 18

Page 18 sees VINCE pick sides

Panels 1-2

JUNIOR is asserting his dominance.

Panel 3

VINCE has a Derringer in an ankle-holster. The Remington Derringer was manufactured from 1866 until 1935.

William Gibson notes that VINCE having a hold-out gun like this is inspired by OSS Colonel Rex Applegate, whose book Kill or Get Killed (1943) is considered a classic manual of combat. He also notes that Applegate may have trained VINCE.

Panel 4

Panels 5-6

Could this be an allusion to "Life on Mars"? A BBC TV show where the protagonist (Sam Tyler) kinda travels back in time to the 1970s.

Archangel #1, Page 18

Page 18 shows us AGENT GIVENS examining the body of the deceased pilot.

Panel 1

Stylized skull tattoo.

Panel 2

"AN AMERICAN CIGARETTE LIGHTER" - I might be misremembering, but were all GIs issued with Zippos in WWII? I think Spencer Tracy insisted his character use a Zippo in "Bad Day at Black Rock" for that reason.

Panel 3

"ONE OF THOSE BRACELETS" - A BOOSTER CUFF ??

Panel 4

"EVERY SECRET U.S. WEAPONS PROJECT" - like Bat Bombs, or Project Pigeon.

Panel 5

Panel 6

Stainless steel forceps.
.

Panel 7

"PLASTIC?" - In 1933, polyethylene was discovered by Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) researchers Reginald Gibson and Eric Fawcett. I hope someone says "long-chain monomers" at some point in this story.
