Archangel #2, Page 20

Page 20 at MR. BABYs

Panel 1

At least one of JUNIOR's bodyguards has survived.

Panel 2

JUNIOR wants to kill THE PILOT.

Panel 3

MR. BABY's nightclub.

Panel 4

We meet one of the final key characters of the story, MR. BABY.

Archangel #2, Page 19

Page 19 VINCE on the run

Panel 1

VINCE fires, he may have hit someone. I'm sure VINCE must use Rex Applegate's Instinctive Aiming approach, if, as William Gibson has suggested, he was trained by Applegate.

Panels 2-3

It looks like he got the driver.

Panels 4-5

VINCE runs for it.

Archangel #2, Page 18

Page 18 sees VINCE pick sides

Panels 1-2

JUNIOR is asserting his dominance.

Panel 3

VINCE has a Derringer in an ankle-holster. The Remington Derringer was manufactured from 1866 until 1935.

William Gibson notes that VINCE having a hold-out gun like this is inspired by OSS Colonel Rex Applegate, whose book Kill or Get Killed (1943) is considered a classic manual of combat. He also notes that Applegate may have trained VINCE.

Panel 4

Panels 5-6

Could this be an allusion to "Life on Mars"? A BBC TV show where the protagonist (Sam Tyler) kinda travels back in time to the 1970s.

Archangel #2, Page 17

Page 17 sees VINCE, JUNIOR, A and B in a jeep.

Panel 1

Inside JUNIOR's case, a green tracking device, Lucky Strike cigarettes (founded in 1871), a lighter, paper maps, and food.

Panel 2

Jeeps of this kind were developed specifically for WW II, built by Willys-Overland, they were known as the Model MB,

Panel 3

Rationing might not be bad in Washington, but it is in Nu 2016.

Panel 4

Futuristic tracking device

Panel 5

"YOU'RE VERY OBSERVANT" - this might not be a compliment.

Panel 6

THE PILOT is going to MR. BABY's nightclub (following NAOMI).

To find out more about nightclubs in Germany under the Nazis, check out SWING KIDS (Robert Sean Leonard, Christian Bale, Frank Whaley, Barbara Hershey, Kenneth Branagh, and Noah Wyle):

Archangel #2, Page 16

Page 16 shows us FRITZ chatting with NAOMI

Panel 1

FRITZ knows when to be seen and when not to be, I think he was hiding and heard everything.

Panel 2

He saw THE CREEPSUIT.

Panel 3

He's all business

Panel 4

He's a survivor.

Archangel #2, Page 15

Page 15 sees A and B report.

Panel 1

A and B decline to mention their failure to capture THE PILOT.

Panel 2

JUNIOR threatens to report NAOMI, whether he is being truthful in unknown, he might not want to bring too much attention to himself, or he might be too busy with the Archangel plan to worry about reporting her.

Panel 3

I think JUNIOR is getting rid of evidence, not just being malicious here.

Panel 4

Vince looks back apologetically at NAOMI.

Archangel #2, Page 14

Page 14 sees us back in 1945

Panel 1

I love chemistry equipment, in the foreground that looks like a condenser to me, but it might be a fancy burette.

Panel 2

JUNIOR may know that NAOMI has material from the future.

Panel 3-5

This may be just JUNIOR being a jerk, or he may be trying to delay the discovery of anything incontrovertible that he is from the future.

Archangel #2, Page 13

Page 13 still in Nu 2016 with TORRES and DAVIS

Panel 1

The rebels have planned ahead.

Panel 2

DR. DAVIS has delusions about his importance (he doesn't seem to realise that THE HENDERSONs are revoltingly nasty people).

Panel 3

"WE'RE GONNA DIE ANYWAY." - Is this part of the Archangel plan?

Panel 4

Panel 5

Further evidence that TORRES has thought this out carefully.

Archangel #2, Page 12

Page 12 show us how things are getting on in NU 2016

Panel 1

TORRES can see what the ROBOTIC FLIES can see.

Panel 2

TORRES tells THE PILOT that NAOMI is someone he can trust.

Panel 3

TORRES is chatting with DR. DAVIS.

Panel 4

Panel 5

THE SPLITTER has a backup control room in Omaha.

Omaha:

Archangel #2, Page 11

Page 11 sees A and B chasing THE PILOT

Panel 1

"YOU USED A LASER ON A CREEPSUIT?" -- apparently a bad idea.

Panel 2

A and B exit the building.

Panel 3

THE PILOT has gone down a manhole.

Round manhole covers have been around since the 1890s.

Panel 4

A and B are not going down to the sewers.

Panel 5

THE PILOT is in pain.

Archangel #2, Page 10

Page 10 sees the PILOT on the run chased by A and B

Panels 1-2

THE PILOT in THE CREEPSUIT making his escape.

Panels 3-4

He's getting shot at with a laser gun. They should have just used a bucket of paint, as Mina Murray does:

Archangel #2, Page 9

Page 9 sees NAOMI being confronted by JUNIOR.

Panel 1

Chromatography, mentioned in Issue #1, Page 19, Panel 2.

Panel 2

Panel 3

"AT THE PRISON" - In Issue #1

Panel 4

Panel 5

"THE FUCKING PILOT" - OK, no one seems to know THE PILOT's name.

Panel 6

JUNIOR is very evil.

Archangel #2, Page 8

Page 8 sees NAOMI chat with THE PILOT.

Panel 1

"TELEVISION" - If THE CREEPSUIT does use micro-cameras and micro-projectors, then the answer isn't a bad one.

Panel 2

That makes sense.

Panel 3

"NOT YOUR FUTURE. YOUR WORLD HERE, EVERYTHING, IT'S A COPY...EGGHEADS IN MY WORLD SPLIT IT OFF FROM OUR TIMELINE" - This makes a lot of sense in terms of our current understanding of quantum physics, time travel per se is impossible like in THE TIME TUNNEL, but it may be possible to interact with (or create) a parallel reality.  In this case THE SPLITTER has caused THE PILOT to enter a parallel reality which is exactly the same as his own reality, but everything is running 70 years slower, and changes in that reality could impact his reality because of the effects of quantum entanglement, in the same way that a Young's slits experiment with a single series of quanta will still generate an interference pattern. The parallel reality is either created, or "knows the right place to be" to cause the interference. All of this assumes a Many-Worlds Interpretation of quantum physics, for more detail see "The Fabric of Reality" by David Deutsch.

Panel 4

"SAME HISTORY" - except for JUNIOR.

Panel 5

"WHEN THE FORK HAPPENS" - The Hiroshima bombing will be happening on the following day.

Panel 6

Archangel #2, Page 7

Page 7 sees NAOMI meet THE PILOT again.

Panel 1

NAOMI and FRITZ hear a creak.

Panel 2

NAOMI instructs FRITZ to leave.

Panel 3

NAOMI knows her science.

Panel 4

H.G. Wells wrote "The Invisible Man", it was originally serialized in Pearson's Weekly in 1897, and was published as a novel the same year.

H.G. Wells also wrote "The Time Machine" in 1895 which has similar themes to Archangel. Also H.G. Wells himself travelled to the 1970s to catch Jack the Ripper:

Panel 5

"I'M THE PILOT" - Do some people not have names in the alternative 2016? Is THE PILOT trying to protect NAOMI by not telling her his name?

Archangel #2, Page 6

Page 6 sees NAOMI examine the bomb fragments and warn FRITZ.

Panel 1

"IN A DECADE" - It might be polypropylene (aka polypropene) which was polymerized to a crystalline isotactic polymer in 1954. I really, really want NAOMI to say it's a "long chain monomer".

This confirms that NAOMI is an expert in Materials Science.

Test tubes have been around since the early 1800s. They may have been invented by Baron Jöns Jacob Berzelius.

Panel 2

Panel 3

FRITZ has the right idea, patent anything new.

Panel 4

Panel 5

NAOMI is going to meet COLONEL YERAKOV at MR. BABYs.

Archangel #2, Page 5

Page 5 sees VINCE discovers that there are more things in heaven and earth...

Panel 1

VINCE gets to the roof.

Panel 2

And sees invisible footsteps in the rain (this can't be an Invisible Man Claude Rains joke, can it?)

Panel 3

Panel 4

"WE'LL FIND HIM." - JUNIOR knows about THE CREEPSUIT.

Panel 5

JUNIOR is wondering about NAOMI.

Archangel #2, Page 4

Page 4 sees JUNIOR HENDERSON discover that there is trouble afoot for him.

Panel 1

JUNIOR HENDERSON, VINCE, A AND B going to examine THE PILOT's cell

Panel 2

An MP, is already in the cell, meets them

Panel 3

Panel 4

"NOT FUNNY." - JUNIOR must know he has enemies from his present.

Panel 5

Archangel #2, Page 3

Page 3 sees THE PILOT don THE CREEPSUIT

Panel 1

THE PILOT is unhappy.

Panel 2

THE PILOT examines THE CREEPSUIT

Panel 3

The gun is merged with the table, I suppose because things have to be falling to be transported in THE SPLITTER, sometimes it can be difficult to be precise with the delivery co-ordinates.
The gun looks like a modified Desert Eagle Mark XIX (I'm not really sure, we don't have guns in Ireland).

Panel 4

THE PILOT zips up the suit

Panel 5

THE CREEPSUIT allows THE PILOT to vanish. Invisibility cloaks can work in several different ways, some have tiny cameras on the back that project whatever they are seeing on the front, and vice versa. Others use nanoantennas (gold blocks) engineered in such a way as to reroute reflected light waves so that the object is rendered invisible.

For me, David McCallum will always be the Invisible Man

Archangel #2, Page 2

Page 2 sees TORRES sending THE PILOT a package.

Panel 1

The rift opens with a FZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Panel 2

The package gets delivered with a FFZZZZZZZCLANG

Panel 3

I wish AMAZON.COM delivered like this, but it is clear that the package is slightly submerged into the table.

Archangel #2, Page 1

Page 1 re-introduces us to The Pilot confined and 'cuffed in his prison cell.

Panel 1

THE PILOT is talking to TORRES via a robotic fly in his cell.

Panels 2-4

The fly crawls along the handcuffs to the lock and releases it.

Panels 5-7

The fly lands in THE PILOT's ear for easy communication.

Panel 8

THE PILOT rubs his now unhand-cuffed wrist and asks TORRES for a pistol and "THE CREEPSUIT"
