Russia is worried about the Nazis getting in the atomic bomb. The Nazi effort to build a bomb was called the Uranprojekt, which was led mainly by Erich Schumann, and involved other noted scientists such as Werner Heisenberg.
Michael Frayn's excellent play Copenhagen concerns a meeting between Heisenberg and Niels Bohr discussing whether or not Germany has the bomb, or might get it.
Russia is also worried about the Americans getting in the atomic bomb. * SPOILERS * they have it, and will drop it the following day.

The nightclub looks a little like the Femina-Palast in Berlin, which mixes Art Deco and Bauhaus styles. People like Count Basie , Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington played there.

UPDATE: ARCHANGEL OPTIONED FOR TELEVISION:
Rolling Stone (below) reported that Archangel was optioned as a movie, it hasn't; but it has been optioned as a TV series, which is awesome news, and the perfect medium for an adaption (time travel TV is very hot, with 11.22.63, Continuum, Outlander, etc):

Publisher IDW also dropped the atomic bombshell that a film is on the way — which makes sense, since Gibson's first draft was a screenplay.
